Imagine if you could watch a film of your own great-great-grandmother
telling the story of her own life, or see images from that life and read
her story in her own words. Imagine if you could see and hear your
great-grandparents describe the moment they met, or watch a day
in the life of their family. LifeFilm and LifeBook are things to
treasure now, but also a wonderful gift to future generations.
LifeFilm is a personalised documentary on a subject of your choice, delivered to you on a beautifully packaged DVD.
LifeFilms can be about anyone.
We offer three types — one for individuals, one for couples and one for families. The aim of all of them is simple... to tell a story.
We’ll film interviews and location footage, and mix it together with still images (from your photo collection) and any archive footage you may have (VHS or even Super 8 cine film). The soundtrack can include music of your choice... perhaps songs that have played an important part in the subject’s life, or even custom-made music to fit the mood.
The professionally-edited film, complete with voiceover telling the story, will be presented on DVD (with menus and everything else you’d expect).
To complement LifeFilm, for an extra cost, we also offer LifeBook — a professionally bound hard-backed book containing all the images from your LifeFilm digitally restored to their original glory and presented with a text version of the commentary from the film. Also included in this package is a CD with all the painstakingly-restored images saved as digital files you can load onto your own computer to send to family and friends.
You don’t have to order LifeFilm to get a LifeBook (although it’s cheaper of you do). LifeBook is also offered as a
standalone package. See our Prices page.
Why do I want one?
There are many reasons why you might want to commission us to make a LifeFilm or a LifeBook.
Individuals: Someone you love — they could be young, or old — might be reaching a milestone in their life... a birthday, leaving home, even a graduation. You might want to treat them to a permanent record of their life so far.
You might even want to have a record of your own life to pass on to generations you might never see.
Couples: Could there be a better wedding gift for the happy couple than a joint documentary film, covering both their lives from birth to the biggest day of their lives?
Families: We can put together a portrait of a family that will become a treasured heirloom in years to come.
How are they made?
We’ve made the process as simple as possible.
LifeFilm:
1: We’ll talk through the kind of film you want to make and decide on a running order.
2: Then we’ll visit you in your home for an informal interview without the cameras to gather information for the film’s voiceover commentary — this will tell the story with as many facts, dates and names as you can provide.
3: We’ll return with our cameras and film interviews with whoever you want to feature in the film — these interviews will add the colour, the background... the real stories behind the bare facts. At this time we’ll also gather the photos from your collection to feature in the film (they will be returned undamaged).
4: Next we’ll film footage at the locations of your choice — places that have been important to the subject of the film (their birthplace, their school, their first home . . . anywhere that is significant for them, provided it is within the area we cover. See the Contact page for details).
5: Then we edit the footage together, add the soundtrack and design the packaging for your DVD. The film will be delivered according to an agreed deadline set out when you place your order.
LifeBook:
1: We’ll talk through the kind of book you want to make and decide on a running order. You’ll gather together the information and images to go in the book.
2: We’ll visit you in your home to pick up the images, and gather the information necessary to write the text commentary to accompany the images.
3: We’ll design the book, send it to the printers and deliver it to you according to a deadline set at the time of ordering.
(If you order LifeBook as part of a LifeFilm package, the production of the book will run alongside production of the film — no extra visits to you will be necessary.)
During the production process for both LifeFilm and LifeBook you will be asked once for your approval of both the wording of the commentary and the final product.
You will be given the text of the commentary and are able to make changes to facts as necessary. You will be given sight of both your LifeFilm and LifeBook for approval before delivery. If you are unhappy with the finished product we will make one round of limited changes to your specifications.
